Banff National Park is known for being one of the most spectacular mountain parks in the world. Abundant wildlife and the majestic Rocky Mountains have been drawing tourists from around the world for over a century. Albertan’s have flocked to their national park treasure during the past two summers as social distancing is easier in the great outdoors. The Bow Valley Parkway (1A highway) is one of the most beautiful highways in the world and it has been partially closed to cars during this time. Cyclists have embraced riding the Bow Valley Parkway with gusto. Bears, sheep and other wildlife are frequenting the road now that the cars are gone. It’s always a treat to view wildlife (from a safe distance). The road has interesting twists and turns as it divides into two sections plus the elevation gains are challenging and sporty. Now that the world is opening up, it’s still a great choice to ride the parkway. Ride from Banff to Lake Louise ski resort and you can get a free t-shirt and pint during their Parkway to pint challenge. Ride the parkway up to Moraine Lake and you can avoid the line ups for the shuttle bus, Hit up the town of Lake Louise and stay at Hi Hostel Lake Louise for an overnight break.

The government of Canada and Banff National park are currently discussing possible vehicle closures in the future as well. 10centstudio strongly supports all opportunities for cyclists to ride in a car free environment. We love how the town of Banff has implemented car free streets and encourage more municipalities to adopt car closures to keep pedestrian, cyclists and families safe.
